05/07/07 - Apologies for the lack of updates last month - things at work have been
busy, plus I took a much needed vacation! Anyway, to make up for the lull in activity, here
is a large update with 13 new scripts added to the Shell Script Repository.
get_nic_vendor.sh can be used
on a Linux machine to analyse network interfaces, and perform a vendor lookup on the MAC
address of the interface(s).
get_cert_info.sh is a script for
the Linux-based F5 Networks BIG-IP load balancer that will analyse all HTTPS virtual
servers and generate a report containing information on the digital certificates in use,
including expiry dates and certificate chains.
generate_calamaris.sh is a wrapper
around Calamaris 3 that I use to generate daily proxy reports for my Squid proxy - just
schedule via cron.
expire_frozen_media.sh is
a script for NetBackup that will scan for FROZEN media and optionally expire them so that
they can be re-used.
empty_dirs.sh checks for empty
subdirectories within a specified directory.
dilbert.sh grabs the latest Dilbert
strip and emails it to me, saves me firing up a browser every day....
check_tomcat.sh uses
pool.sh to check the status of Tomcat
servers, but can be modified to check any BIG-IP load balanced pools for member status.
check_conf.sh is a wrapper around
named-checkconf to check named.conf files and mail on error.
ratetool.pl is a full featured Perl
script that can be used to rate objects within a database, and manipulate the ratings
assigned to those objects. I use this to rate my mp3 collection (think Digg/Bury....)
pingscan.sh pingscans a subnet and
reports whether an IP address is up or not - useful for allocating IP addresses to new
hosts/devices.
nrped is an init.d script for the Nagios
nrped daemon.
mail_summary.pl will parse
a maillog and generate some basic statistics on outbound mail.
lol2sh.sh is a bit of fun - a converter
that parses basic LOLCODE and generates
a bash script with the appropriate functionality, then executes the same.
It's a basic LOLCODE interpreter!
