27/01/06 - A new article added in this mornings update, detailing the
Installation of Sybase ASE for Linux. This document fills many holes
left in the official installation documentation, and also shows you how to create your initial
database devices and create a simple database.

14/01/06 - I decided to rewrite the PHP code for the Tips and Tricks Area. I have created
a central index file and changed the way in which the individual tips files are parsed. This enhances
execution time for the script tremendously. I have also enhanced the "Browse Tips By Category"
function. Instead of just receiving a long list of tips sorted by category, it now presents a
category list, and you can drill down to the tips you want. Again, much faster execution time for the
script. The new category list based browsing can be seen here.

13/01/06 - I have finally started consolidating and reviewing my notes. I've
been putting this off for weeks (as I have around 500 text files full of information
dotted around). After only a day of sifting through and consolidating some of this
information I have uploaded 41 new tips to the
Tips And Tricks area. This is a HUGE update and the
tips cover a wide variety of subject matter. The tips uploaded are as follows:

11/01/06 - I have written and uploaded a new article detailing the
Creation of Solaris Packages. It's a must-read for
anybody wanting to maintain a consistent set of administrative tools over a large
number of servers.
-
06/01/06 - I have started the new year at Zazzybob.com by performing a few
housekeeping tasks that few people will notice. These mainly related to converting
a few rogue redirection symbols to their proper HTML metacharacters within some of
the tips on the site. Very boring, but something that needs doing!
Anyway, on to the "proper" update. A couple of new scripts added.
checkLostFound is a script
for Solaris systems that can be scheduled via cron to periodically check all
lost+found directories for files.
lgrep is something I use on systems
without GNU grep to emulate the functionality of the -A, -B and -C options - this
can be very useful.
I have added a new tip to the Tips and Tricks Area.
It's an update to an old tip, and shows (in my opinion) the best way to
check for core dumps and then delete them. View the tip
here.
