Recent Updates -------------- The last newsletter went out in January of this year - I then went through an international relocation, so things have been a little hectic. Even though I've been doing a lot of work on the site, I haven't had the time to prepare a newsletter. Anyway, here is a summary of what's new at Zazzybob.com.... * Tips and Tricks - The tips and tricks area has received a lot of submissions, from site visitors plus tips of my own. Since January, there have been 13 new tips added to the database. Two of these tips deserve special mention (see below) as they contain over 40 one-liners! * Configuration File Parsers - Basic parsers written in Perl and ksh to read assignments without resorting to dirty old "eval" * A couple of scripts, valip and minmaxave - valip - Validate IPv4 addresses - minmaxave - Basic arithmetic using the shell and bc Tip and Trick Collections ------------------------- I have added two collections of tips and one liners to the Zazzybob.com Tips and Tricks database (http://www.zazzybob.com/tips.php?type=browse) These are the first in what I hope will be many such additions to the database. Highlights from these collections include.... - Solaris - display system information - Find out MAC addresses - Extract tarball when tar has no z option - Redirect a man page to a file - Check which processes are listening on which ports - ksh: Script debugging - Finding a files hard links This is just the start - 45 one liners have been added in these collections. Stay tuned for more!! Development ----------- I'm working on a few things at the moment, including a Korn shell menu system, an article describing the configuration of Sun StorEdge 3510 Disk Arrays, and many other projects to keep me busy. These will be added to the site over the next few months as time permits! shutdown -h now --------------- Until next time..... Cheers, Kevin Waldron kevin@zazzybob.com http://www.zazzybob.com
